Greeks Do Not Want Corruption: An Open Message to the EU Prosecutor’s Office

The Greek people are watching — and we want the European Union to know: we reject the filth and impunity that our own corrupt officials use to steal EU money, silence honest prosecutors, and rig elections.

The OPEKEPE Scandal: How Ministers Betrayed Europe and Greece

Recent investigations led by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) have uncovered massive fraud in Greece’s agricultural subsidy system — the Payment and Control Agency for Community Aid Guidance and Guarantee (OPEKEPE). Between 2019 and 2022, senior Greek officials processed fake land leases and bogus subsidy claims, funnelling hundreds of millions of euros meant for real farmers into the pockets of fraudsters and cronies.

Key facts:

• The real organic farming budget was around €298 million — but applications submitted falsely claimed more than €700 million, according to multiple reports.
• The European Commission has imposed a €392 million fine on Greece for this systemic fraud.
• Five senior Greek officials, including Migration Minister Makis Voridis, resigned in disgrace. But Voridis’s resignation was only from his ministerial position — not from his seat as an MP. This is an old trick by the ruling New Democracy party: hide him until the scandal “fades” while keeping him politically sheltered.

The Wiretap: “ΞΕΚΩΛΙΑΣΤΕ the Prosecutor”

The scandal does not stop at stolen money. Wiretapped conversations from the EPPO’s 3,000-page case file reveal that senior ministers — including Voridis and Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis — discussed forcibly removing European prosecutor Popi Papandreou, who was investigating the fraud.

Their exact words? “Αν δεν ξεκωλώσουν τώρα την Παπανδρέου…” — a crude Greek threat meaning “If they don’t fuck Papandreou in the ass now and break her, we have a problem.” This shows the moral gutter in which these men operate: they would rather destroy an honest prosecutor than face justice.

Election Rigging with EU Money

This stolen money did not just enrich the few. Evidence shows that the funds were used to buy votes and fix elections — an open betrayal of the European democratic process. Some involved have already confessed that fake farm subsidies were handed out as pre-election ‘gifts’ to ensure support for the ruling New Democracy party.

And yet the same courts that removed opposition MPs for “misleading voters” now do nothing when the ruling party itself manipulates elections with dirty money.

A System of Silence and Cowardice

Greek prosecutors hear these threats — “ΞΕΚΩΛΙΑΣΤΕ την Παπανδρέου” — and yet they stay silent.
Greek courts see ministers using EU funds as bribes — and yet they do nothing.

This is the rot we live with. But Europe must know: Greek citizens do not accept it. We ask you — the European institutions — to do everything in your power to hold these corrupt officials criminally accountable.

What We Call On the EU to Do

• Use every legal tool available under EU law to pursue Makis Voridis, Giorgos Floridis, and all others involved — and ensure there are no Greek political cover-ups.
• Keep the full case file in EU hands — no backroom deals or buried evidence in Athens.
• Protect honest prosecutors like Popi Papandreou who face vile threats for doing their job.
• Make clear that EU taxpayers’ money is not a private vault for bribing voters or buying elections.

Greece Deserves Better

Ordinary Greeks are not complicit in this. We want our country back — free from ministers who brag about ‘fucking over’ prosecutors to protect their stolen wealth.
